MIRIDS AND APHID CONTROL IN LUCERNE
Transform® Isoclast® active Insecticide for control of mirids and aphids in lucerne
Australian lucerne growers now have a new option to control aphids and mirids in their production system. Transform® Isoclast® active is an effective option to control insect pests resistant to traditional insecticides, such as blue green aphid, whilst being IPM compatible.
Mode-of-action Transform Isoclast active Insecticide (500 g/kg sulfoxaflor) is a unique Group 4C (sulfoximine) mode-of-action insecticide with excellent user, crop and environmental safety features.
Absorption and translocation • Transform Isoclast active has very good translaminar and acropetal activity. • Transform Isoclast active will move up the plant via the xylem, so it will move to new growth. • Transform Isoclast active will not move down to the lower leaves and roots. Therefore, spray coverage is critical to ensure the pests contact the spray or treated leaves. Aphids and mirids may survive on untreated leaves lower in the canopy. Applying Transform Isoclast active in water rates that provide superior coverage will achieve a better result.

Impact on beneficials insects • Avoid direct contact to bees. Transform Isoclast active is toxic to bees and wasps if contacted directly, however, once the spray deposit is dry, there is minimal impact. Time the application of Transform Isoclast active when bees are not foraging. Avoid physical spray drift onto hives. • Transform Isoclast active will help preserve beneficial insects in the crop. It is a much softer option than traditional, non-selective, organophosphate, and synthetic pyrethroid insecticides. • Transform Isoclast active has minimal impact on predatory mites, spiders, and other insects. • Maintaining beneficial insect populations can be particularly effective at reducing the number and frequency of sprays needed during a season.

Directions for use cont. DO NOT apply no more than 2 applications of Transform® Isoclast® active per season. DO NOT apply consecutive applications of Transform Isoclast active when targeting aphids. If required, apply an alternative mode-of-action insecticide between Transform Isoclast active applications to control aphids. Corteva recommends a minimum 50 L/ha water volume for ground application and 30 L/ha for aerial application. Higher water volumes for ground application are recommended as the crop size increases to achieve optimum coverage.
Compatibility Transform Isoclast active has been used successfully by broadacre and horticulture growers to control various sucking pests for many years and no physical product incompatibilities have been reported. Please contact your advisor if you have any product compatibility questions. Spray water should be taken from a clean source and within the 5-9 pH range. Recommended mixing order:
- Water conditioners (if required).
- Transform Isoclast active.
- EC’s and oils.
- Water soluble products.
- Wetting agents.
Rainfast period Transform Isoclast active is rainfast within 2 hours of application. The spray deposit should be allowed to dry prior to a rainfall event.
Re-entry period People may re-enter the Transform Isoclast active sprayed crop when the spray deposit is dry.
Grazing and stockfeed withholding period Do not graze or cut for stock feed for 21 days after application.
Summary • Transform Isoclast active is a Group 4C (sulfoximine) insecticide that provides excellent control of aphids and mirids in lucerne. • Transform Isoclast active is a Schedule 5 insecticide with improved user, crop, and IPM features. • For best results, apply Transform Isoclast active early before numbers build. • Ensure excellent coverage and use the higher rate for adult mirids and longer residual activity. • A minimum 50 L/ha water volume is required but higher rates of 80 L/ha or more can improve results when better coverage is achieved. • Avoid direct contact with bees. Ensure application will be dry before bees are foraging. • Spraying in the evening avoids bee contact and high (over 30°C) day temperatures. • Growers may apply a maximum 2 applications of Transform Isoclast active per season. • If spraying for aphids, do not apply 2 consecutive Transform Isoclast active applications. • Transform Isoclast active does not persist in the environment. • Transform Isoclast active is a proven wettable granule formulation and therefore compatibility is excellent. However, Corteva recommends growers conduct a bucket test or ask their advisor if unsure. • Please read the Transform Isoclast active label thoroughly and apply as described.
