Growrite Pointed Hardwood Stakes

Sturdy mahogany hardwood stakes with a pointed end, so they push and tap straight into the soil — no digging, no pre-drilling, no fuss.

Mahogany is a dense, tight-grained timber, which means these stakes hold up in the ground season after season and won't split apart when you knock them in with a mallet. They're a proper hardwood stake rather than the soft pine offcuts you'll often find, so you're not out replacing them next spring.

Which size do I need?

We stock twelve sizes, so there's one to suit whatever you're growing:

  • 11mm x 11mm (75cm, 120cm) — the light ones. Perfect for potted plants, seedlings, tomatoes, dahlias and anything that just needs a gentle bit of support.
  • 17mm x 17mm (105cm, 150cm) — a great all-rounder. Young shrubs, climbing beans, peas, roses and staking out garden beds.
  • 25mm x 11mm (75cm, 90cm) — the flat ones. These are the pick for tree guards, where the extra width holds the sleeve or mesh open nicely.
  • 25mm x 25mm (90cm, 120cm, 150cm, 180cm, 210cm) — the heavy-duty option. New trees, fruit trees, windbreaks, bird netting frames and shade cloth over the veggie patch.
  • 50mm x 25mm (60cm) — short and chunky. Handy for anchoring, holding edging in place, or anywhere you want a solid grip in the ground rather than height.

A quick tip: when staking a young tree, drive the stake in on the side the wind usually comes from, and tie loosely with a soft tie so the trunk can still move a little — that flex is what builds a strong trunk.
