Corflute is plastic, and that's bad thing, especially when you're planting hundreds of trees. But here's the thing: cardboard tree guards just don't cut the mustard. They tend to collapse, depriving your plant of light. The use of tree guards is a no brainer: if you are planting into paddock situations, you MUST have a tree guard. Not only do they help you idnetify where your seedling actually is, but they help it grow much faster: A Toona ciliata six inch tubestock without a tree guard will grow maybe to 8 inches (200mm) without a tree guard in its first year, about 3.2 ft 1m with. Cardboard tree guards are recyclable, but not restorable. Core flute is. It always fails along the seams eventually, but a bit of gaffing tape fixes that. In the end its a no brainer: get corflute.

We bought these corflute guards to replace the cheap existing sleeves we had, that were splitting & to protect our new saplings. These guards are excellent quality & are easy to open & use (especially with the hardwood stakes, so make sure you buy those too!). With 200 already used, they're protecting our saplings from roos, hares, freezing wind & even some frosts whilst allowing airflow. We've got another 100 to put in & will be ordering again when we plant out our next lot!

Finally got around to using these. With the bamboo stakes they were fairly easy to install around my plants and they look sturdy enough to keep out small animals and protect from weather.

Great product, keeps the chooks & ducks from eating the young plants. I'd probably buy the larger size next time for the young fruit trees
