Reducing Our Environmental Impact

Our Commitment

The Garden Superstore acknowledges and is committed to taking the necessary care and responsibility to prevent all forms of environmental damage/impact.  We recognise that everything we do in the day to day operation of our business could impact our environment in a detrimental way.

Environmental Management Actions Taken

  • Moved to an all-electric forklift fleet.
Now no gas powered equipment here. Cleaner. Quieter.
  • Solar Systems have been installed to our warehouse roof (total 30 kWh) to reduce reliance on coal powered electricity.
This now provides half of our required electricity, reducing by 50% our reliance on the existing electricity grid.
  • Both large delivery vehicles are run with the addition of “Adblue” in the diesel, greatly reducing harmful gases in their exhaust.
  • We are now packaging our bags of fertilizer, for transport, in recycled cardboard cartons (previously using heavy duty plastic).
  • An automatic watering system has been installed for the lawn. This operates at dawn, incorporating a rainfall sensor to prevent wasting water if there has been recent rain.
  • All lights in the building have been changed over to LED, significantly reducing power consumption.
  • Roofwater is harvested into onsite tanks, used for flushing all toilets.
  • New separated waste bins are provided - separating general waste from recyclable waste.
  • Air Conditioning, Water Coolers and other amenity equipment serviced regularly to manufacturer’s recommendation to maintain maximum efficiency - reducing electricity consumption
  • Fuel consumption reduction is a high priority when purchasing fleet vehicles – now including Hybrid/Electric in our fleet
  • Pallets are reused wherever possible
  • Cardboard Cartons are re-used for our own goods despatch wherever possible
  • An onsite cardboard recycling bin is utilized, along with 2 x 240L recycling bins for all other recyclables, collected fortnightly.
